Workshop “Sustainable access to digital cultural and scientific heritage: Thesauri and Authority Records”

Croatian DARIAH member DARIAH-HR and the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore organise a workshop with the title “Sustainable access to digital cultural and scientific heritage: Thesauri and Normative”. It takes place at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore, Šubićeva 42, Zagreb, Croatia, 28 June 2016 at 10:00.

The workshop is intended for humanistic scientific community, as well as for staff from cultural institutions (archives, libraries, museums, etc.).

The workshop is about sustainable access to digital cultural and scientific heritage. A normative database of names and the importance of normative control will be the subjects of Ana Knežević Cerovski’s presentation, who is the editor of the normative base of the National and University Library in Zagreb. As an introduction to the topic and the issue of creating a thesaurus, M. Sc. Irena Kolbas, senior curator and head of the library of the Ethnographic Museum will present the problem of terminology for a specific area of ethnology and cultural anthropology.

In the second part of the workshop Kristijan Crnković will present an online tool for creating thesauri and normative records. Eventually, the participants will divide themselves into working groups according to the field of study or interest (ethnologists, archaeologists, art historians, linguists, etc.) and, using the online tools, try to create a thesaurus scheme or work on the development of normative records.

After the workshop the groups will continue to work on the development of thesaurus and normatives, and will try to involve other colleagues from their institution’s and other institutions in Croatia and Europe to help to create an operable thesaurus for a scientific and professional terminology in various humanistic and artistic fields in the near future, which will be available to the entire DARIAH (and broader) community.
