DARIAH Workshop and Possible New Working Group on Research Ethics

The DARIAH workshop “Sustainable access to digital cultural and scientific heritage: Ethical and legal issues” took place in Zagreb. It was organised in the framework of DARIAH’s Humanities at Scale project by the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research and the University of Zagreb’s Computing Centre – SRCE.

Presenters and workshop managers were lawyers and other prominent experts from a variety of educational, scientific and heritage institutions from Croatia, Austria and Denmark (see programme: http://calenda.org/392560).

During the two days of the workshop participants had the opportunity to follow twelve presentations regarding professional, legal and ethical issues associated with open access to archival material or scientific papers and books.

In the afternoon hours a total of four workshops were held: Intellectual Property Rights, Creative Commons Licenses, Contract drafting and The protection of personal data and scientific research.

The presentations have also been available through webinar, which was ensured by SRCE and the workshop was attended by 76 registered participants from Croatia and throughout Europe.

Possible new working group
During the workshop DARIAH-HR’ s coordinator, Koraljka Kuzman, invited presenters and participants of the workshop to actively involve themselves in forming a new DARIAH’s working group that would be continuously dealing with the ethical and legal issues in the e-environment. Candidates can send their applications or proposals to: koraljka@ief.hr.
